Clinical and health informatics jobs for people who came up through science, data, or public health

Most informatics boards mix nursing-informatics and physician-informaticist roles in with everything else, so a biology, computer science, biomedical engineering, public health, or health information graduate spends half the search reading past "RN license required." Every listing here is tagged for exactly that: which degrees the posting names, whether a clinical license is required, preferred, or not mentioned at all, and whether Epic certification is expected on day one or sponsored after hire.

Seven tracks that hire non-nursing backgrounds

"Clinical informatics" on a posting can mean anything from Epic build to NLP over clinical notes. These are the tracks where a non-clinical degree is routinely accepted, with the vocabulary each one expects you to recognize.

Pay reference, United States, 2026

Posted ranges on this board are the best signal, since more states now require them. These aggregates give you the floor and ceiling when a posting is silent.

Where these jobs actually get posted

Aggregators lag the employer sites by days and bury informatics under nursing. Check the first group weekly; the second group is where the titles are still forming.

Professional boards

  • AMIA Career Center: the informatics society's own board; the featured roles skew toward industry data science and academic positions, and the employer list is a useful map of who considers themselves an informatics employer.
  • HIMSS JobMine: heavier on health IT operations and EHR analyst roles than AMIA.
  • AHIMA Career Assist: health information management, coding, data governance, and the RHIA-track analyst roles.
  • CompBioJobs: the model for this board; its RWE and clinical data science listings overlap with ours.

Employer career pages worth a saved search

  • Health data platforms: Truveta, Flatiron Health, Komodo Health, Datavant, Tempus, Aetion, Arcadia, Health Catalyst, Innovaccer.
  • EHR and device vendors: Epic (Verona, WI; hires science graduates directly into implementation and technical services), Oracle Health, MEDITECH, Siemens Healthineers, GE HealthCare, Intuitive.
  • Health systems with informatics departments: AdventHealth, RWJBarnabas, Providence, Baylor Scott & White, University Hospitals, Mass General Brigham, Vanderbilt, Intermountain.
  • Federal and contractors: VA and DHA EHR modernization work through GovCIO, DSS Inc., Core4ce, Leidos, and the CDC and FDA data science postings on USAJOBS.

Credentials that substitute for a license

None of these are required for the jobs on this board, but each one answers the "but are you clinical?" question in a specific way.

  • Epic certifications cannot be bought; an employer sponsors you and most health-system postings say so ("obtain within 6 months" or "within 45 days of training"). Analyst I postings that say "will train" are the entry point.
  • AMIA Health Informatics Certification (AHIC): the non-physician credential from AMIA, open to health informatics master's graduates and to experienced practitioners without one.
  • CAHIMS and CPHIMS (HIMSS): associate and professional health IT certifications; CAHIMS has no experience requirement and is the cheapest signal for a new graduate.
  • RHIA (AHIMA): the health information management credential; requires a CAHIIM-accredited program but opens data governance and HIM analyst roles that otherwise ask for coding experience.
  • HL7 FHIR certifications: the interoperability track's credential; pairs well with a computer science or engineering degree.
  • OHDSI / OMOP training (free): the common data model used by most real-world evidence employers; naming it on a resume is often worth more than a certificate.

Post a job

Reach science, data, and public health graduates who are looking specifically for informatics roles that do not require a clinical license. Every listing is reviewed by hand before it goes up and is tagged with the same licensure, certification, and degree information as the rest of the board, so the people who apply already know they qualify.
